Winter Canoe Build 10: Doors Open

November 7, 2020 - Belfast, ME

Amanda and I spent this joyful morning cutting and constructing 2”x4” double doors for the opening of the shed. I made an 8’ opening to the shed so that people on either side of the canoe, which is likely going to be around or at least 4’ amidships, can haul her out when she’s completed. I’ve never made doors before: it couldn’t be that hard, right? Well, it’s not the ‘making’ of the doors that was challenging, it was the roughly-built doors that weren’t exactly square and getting them to fit and swing properly that was the tougher part. But it helps when you work well with your partner (and not just in terms of a relationship—with your hands, working on tangible projects), so we fashioned some mighty fine doors. Later that day, Tim offered some old barn boards that were either in decent shape or rotting, and before they got sent to the 2020 firepit, I could thumb through the pile. For another day: there was celebration to be had this evening.
